1200 Grit diamond surfaces are great for sharpening and polishing tools. Extra fine grit works best when removing small amounts of high speed steel or carbide material and putting a beautiful flat finish on a tool. Excellent for adding heels and sharpening tools that have dulled but not chipped or broken. If a tool is very dull or the tip has broken, then coarser grits should be used to shape the tool before a 1200 grit wheel. If you want a mirror polish, then use Graver Polishing Film for High Speed Steel or Carbides.
This 5 inch / 125 mm diamond wheel works on all major powered hones designed for 5 inch diamond wheels for shaping and sharpening gravers for jewelers and hand engravers. It can also be used without a hone.
These disks are 1mm thick steel electroplated with 1200 grit diamond dust and a ½ inch / 12.75mm arbor hole.
Be sure to attach the wheel to the hone with the manufacturer’s recommended locking bolts. Users may need to use washers for spacers with locking bolts for units that normally accept ½ inch thick wheels.
Use extreme caution when used with powered hones, especially at speeds over 750 rpm. Edges are sharp and can easily cut hands, especially at high speeds.
When used with powered hones, friction will create heat quickly, especially at high speeds. Be careful when shaping and sharpening gravers to avoid burns.
Use proper dust collection and/or safety masks when grinding with powered hones. Inhaling or ingesting metallic dust, especially carbide dust, can cause injury or death at high and/or prolonged exposure levels.
