Wilmington, OH - Tira Mitchell from Engraver.com and Christian DeCamillis from EngraversStudio.com proudly demonstrated the EnSet Hand Engraving tool at the highly successful Ohio Gun Collectors Association (“OGCA”) meeting on July 21 and 22. Held at the Roberts Center, Tira and Chris appeared along with over a dozen other hand engraving artists many of whom were members of the Firearms Engravers Guild of America (“FEGA”) to display the fine art of hand engraving.
The event was coordinated by Joe Rundell , a hand engraver and longtime member of FEGA and OGCA. Hand engravers including Mike Dubber, Tim Adlam, Scott Pilkington, Roger Bleile, Brian Powley, Sandra Brady, Paul Hamler and others showed exquisite examples of their art to thousands of club members. Enthusiasts from across Ohio and nearby states admired the craftsmanship and world class designs meticulously engraved into precision made firearms. With some examples valued over $300,000, members were fascinated to learn about engraving techniques, gold inlay, scroll design and the tools needed to perform this work.
Engravers and club members particularly enjoyed viewing work through the Leica A60 microscope that Tira had on display. The clear, brightly lit microscope showed the fine cuts in the metal and how engravers expertly place each mark in complex designs. A nearby computer screen showed observers real time video of hand engravers using the equipment captured by a camera attached to the scope.
Other engravers especially enjoyed trying the EnSet Plus Engraving and Stone Setting System. This air powered tool replicates the progress marks that give life to traditional hand and chisel engraving while providing a relaxed control to the hand engraver to make precision cuts in precious metals and high value firearms. Jewelers use the same tool to set diamonds in gold, platinum, silver and even titanium.
