Leica did not originally intend the A60 series microscopes to be used their S-Series Objective Lenses. Engraver.com discovered that the scope and lenses were compatible when we started marketing them together in 2012. Because of the A60 microscope design, when used with an objective lens the microscope could not achieve the very top of its zoom range. Even so, the A60-F with an Objective Lens quickly became the industry standard stereo microscope for jewelers, engravers and stone setters.
Leica has since developed an adapter ring so the A60 microscopes can achieve the full zoom range with an objective lens. This is an optional adapter - the microscope can still be properly used without the adapter. Any adapter ring that adds distance between the microscope body and objective lens changes the microscope's optics slightly, and the focal working distance between the microscope and the work under the microscope is reduced. Because working distance is a critical part of comfortably using a microscope, one needs to evaluate whether to use an adapter with an objective lens.
Working distances are as follows:
Objective Lens | Without Leica Adapter | With Leica Adapter |
